Product Solon Black 230/01 Solar Module
Description
The Solon Black 230/01 is a monocrystalline module boasting 14.6% efficiency rating. At 64.57” x 39.37” x 1.65” (1640mm x 1000mm x 42mm) it weighs just under 52 lbs. Solon modules carry a great 10 year product warranty (most modules have 5 year warranties) and a staggered 5-stage power output warranty – 95% for 5 years, 90% for 10 years, 87% for 15 years, 83% for 20 years, and 80% for 25 years. This Solon comes with a 2-year Solon Insurance policy covering an entire array, yield losses and even faulty installation. Solon uses 4mm extra-hardened transparent glass to improve transparency and durability. This module has built-in drainage holes to improve weather resistance and prevent water damage in repeated freeze-thaw scenarios. Module connectors are Solarlok Tyco connections. Solon’s Black module line is manufactured with entirely black components to present a consistent, unified rooftop aesthetic.
Power
• The Solon Black 230/01 has a rated Vmp (maximum voltage) of 29.2V and an Imp (maximum current) of 7.88A. Many modules have a higher voltage and lower current. A common saying among installers is ‘voltage is cheap’ – because high voltage requires thinner wire. And if a panel is able to sustain its power with a strong current (amperage) this implies good circuitry within the module. This Solon has a strong amperage rating.
Tolerance
• These modules have a +/- 3% power tolerance in Standard Test Conditions. In other words, they’ll produce 223.1 – 236.9 watts of power when exposed to 1000w/m2 and 25º C (77º Fahrenheit). This power tolerance is better than many comparable +/- 5% ratios but not as strong as panels with 0 + 5%.
Warranty
• The staggered output warranty is a strong indicator that Solon understands the behavior and the quality of the cells they produce.
Recommendation
• Solon modules are German designed and made in the U.S.A. Our own module test affirms this brand due to observed output of the Solon 220 – beating out similarly powered 224 and 230-watt panels. Solon modules are well made and productive: two thumbs up!
