Grid Tie

Grid-tie or synchronous inverters are used for solar energy systems that are connected to the local utility grid. The electricity is converted from DC to AC by the inverter and then either distributed for use within the home or building or it flows into the utility grid. Synchronous inverters made by Outback, Sunny Boy, and Xantrex are suitable for use in net metering installations where the user gets credit for any excess energy added back into the local system. You may also be interested in the new mini-inverters made by Enphase. Some grid-tie inverters can also be connected to a battery bank and standby generator to provide additional independence from the grid (these are often called multi-function inverters). Be sure to select an inverter that matches the wattage output of your solar panels.
