Solar Decathlon

Since 2002, collegiate teams from all over the world have come together on the National Mall to showcase their solar homes. Teams start work on these buildings about two years before the actual competition, submit designs, and the top twenty teams are invited to build and display their homes. Teams compete in 10 different categories: Architecture, Market Appeal, Engineering, Communications, Affordability, Comfort Zone, Hot Water, Appliances, Home Entertainment, and Energy Balance. These contests are scored by industry experts and awards are given for highest in each category as well as top overall scores.
